Montreal municipal council met to discuss various topics, some which were met with public concern, including the removal of a green space to make way for a business. 

A green space called the Boise Steinberg will be removed to make way for a real estate office. This was met with criticism from some, voicing concern that as we are currently facing a global environmental crisis, preserving our green spaces are of great importance. Despite the concern, the city will move forward with this project.

A sports centre was promised for youth, as those under 18-years-old are permitted to play spots under Quebec's COVID-19 regulations. A centre for youth was promised in Montreal-Nord, however, no plans have been released showing the project will come to fruition.

The City of Montreal is increasing the police budget by $22 million in 2022. This is the second highest increase in history in the city. The new operating budget of the police will be $724 million this year. Montreal Mayor Valerie Plante has committed to hiring an additional 122 police. 

Montreal has the countries largest police budget per capita. Some Montrealers brought up their concerns with the increased police budget during this meeting, drawing attention to the need for more funding of social services in order to reduce crime at its roots. Councillors in the meeting cited increased gun violence and criminalized violence as the reason for increasing the police budget.
