Schreiber Council Supports Motion to Address Shortage of Physicians in the North
The township of Schreiber Council met for the first meeting of the month of February 2022. As per usual the first item on the agenda is always accepting the minutes of any previous meetings.
Normally the next items up would be budget related such as payments and bank debits but this time there was a motion put forward to support a resolution in respect to the expansion of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine to address the shortage of physicians in Northern Ontario.
Other items:
- Accounts for Payment and Bank debits were all approved and ratified.Under other business, there was a motion to approve an agreement between Schreiber and the Ministry of transportation related to gas tax funds for public transportation.
- Approval of borrowing funds for some municipal costs were approved. This is an ongoing budget requirement needed to retain a positive credit rating.
- Dog license discounts have been extended to give people the opportunity to get their tags.
Committee of the whole; Department reports
- Council remuneration has been updated but there was no discussion.
- Treasurer report included an item on budget variance. This is seldom discussed.
- Director of Operations was backed up with a quick discussion of issues and highlighted a few issues that will upcoming such as water treatment.
- Community economic development report contained updates on grants that are available. One of the items mentioned is the possibility of a long awaited sidewalk upgrade programme. Heritage days has applied for funding going in to the summer event. Bicycle traffic infrastructure is a topic on the table for development.
- Recreation programmer recommends going ahead with plans for the winter carnival on a scaled down event. It is hoped that heritage days in summer will be well attended.
- By law officer report mentions that property standards violations are still ignored in certain areas. There is presently a court challenge happening in regards to this.
- Festival Committee is proceeding with plans in accordance with COVID restrictions.
- Library report on book bag and 1000 book program is mentioned.

Communications
- Request for an extension to Arena season closing. Additional cost to be carried by town for events.
Unfinished Business
- Budget items for cemetery and sanitation and landfill mentioned but no discussion.
- Request for bench at dog park.

Le centre multimédia Schreiber se trouve dans la bibliothèque publique de Schreiber et comprend des outils pour l'enregistrement, la diffusion en direct et la post-production audio et vidéo.
