The Effect of Covid 19 on Schools

Covid 19 affects everyone in the world today. People losing jobs, not visiting love ones, and as well people not getting the school experience that they need to get the proper education are three of the main effects, and there are many others.

With the restrictions, teachers in Winnipeg have to limit their class sizes and resort to online teaching. The students have had to learn from home through their webcam and learn on their own. This is limiting for some students because some students are hands-on learners.

In this episode of In Focus by U Multicultural, Mark Aaron interviewed the Principal Brian Cameron, a teacher, and as well a student at Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre. We wanted to get their perspective on how Covid 19 has affected the school, what changes they had to make to follow the Covid 19 guidelines, and also how it changed on how they teach and learn.

Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre is located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is a vocational school where students learn about the field that they are interested in -- automative, cooking and even broadcast media are some of the courses being offered at Louis Riel. They get the hands-on training and the experience that they need to work on the field right after they finish the program.

But with Covid 19 and the restrictions, the students don't get the experience they were hoping for. The teachers have to change their curriculum and change how to teach their students to get them prepared for the workforce. Limiting the classroom sizes and as well learning from home is difficult for the teacher and students to get the work experience that they need.
