A Cultural Landmark in the Tri-Cities Today in Face to Face, Fowlis highlights Evergreen’s mission to make arts accessible to all. Established in the 1990s, the centre has become a cornerstone of creativity, offering live performances, exhibitions, and educational programs. Nestled beside Coquitlam’s Lafarge Lake, it provides a welcoming space for professional and emerging artists alike.

“Our goal is to make the arts accessible for everybody because there is truly something for everyone,” says Fowlis. The 257-seat theatre hosts everything from thought-provoking dramas to vibrant musicals, while the Art Gallery at Evergreen offers free admission to rotating exhibitions year-round.

Evergreen’s Impact on the Tri-Cities Community Beyond being a cultural hub, Evergreen Cultural Centre plays a key role in shaping the artistic identity of the Tri-Cities. Its programs foster a deep connection between residents and the arts, ensuring that creativity is accessible to all. Through collaborations with local schools, thousands of students have had the chance to experience theatre and visual art, many for the first time. The centre also champions local artists, giving them a platform to exhibit work and perform in a professional setting.

“We love seeing Tri-Cities artists thrive and share their talent with their community,” Fowlis shares. Evergreen’s initiatives don’t stop at entertainment—they also address social and cultural needs. Events like community Pride celebrations, Indigenous art exhibits, and public talks help bring important conversations to the forefront.

The centre’s ability to engage residents in meaningful artistic experiences strengthens community bonds and ensures that arts and culture remain at the heart of life in the Tri-Cities. Community Engagement and Inclusivity Evergreen focuses on fostering a sense of belonging through community-driven initiatives.

School partnerships bring students in for performances and workshops, while volunteer opportunities make it a true gathering space. Accessibility remains a priority, with affordable ticket pricing and a fully wheelchair-accessible facility. Visitors can enjoy a variety of free and low-cost events, including Family Days—monthly activities designed to introduce children to the arts through hands-on experiences. “Evergreen isn’t just a venue—it’s a gathering place,” Fowlis explains.

Events like the annual Music on the Grill series bring people together, blending live music with outdoor dining by the lake. Looking Ahead to 2025 Evergreen’s future is bright, with plans for expanded programming, new artistic collaborations, and a growing presence in the Tri-Cities. “We see ourselves reaching even more people, while always keeping that welcoming spirit,” Fowlis shares.

With its dedication to inclusivity and innovation, Evergreen Cultural Centre continues to be a thriving cultural hub, where creativity, community, and culture come together.Tri Cities Community TV is a group of volunteers in the region who are looking to support community video media and independant community news stories and sources.
