Fostering Hope: Improving Foster Care in the Province

There are over 10 thousand children in Manitoba alone who require help.

Here in Winnipeg, several Filipino families are providing foster care. What does it take to be a foster parent? Is there enough support to help foster families provide a safe and nurturing home?

The Manitoba Liberal Party, headed by Cindy Lamoureux, is calling on the provincial government to increase maintenance rates and service fees for foster parents in the province, saying the maintenance rates have not kept up with the rising cost of living. Manitoba Foster Parent Association is concerned that foster children in Manitoba may be missing out on opportunities to improve their development.

Foster caregivers play a vital role in the lives of children and youth who are unable to live with their biological families for various reasons.
