Grand Manan Village Council Prepares For A Special Visitor

At the regular June 2022 council meeting for the Village of Grand Manan, Mayor Bonnie Morse said she had a unique opportunity for the council to give back to a special person whose wish is to come to Grand Manan Island.

"Two weeks ago, I got a call from a representative from the Make A Wish Foundation who was on the island scouting out locations for a child who's in the Make a Wish Foundation and whose wish is to visit Grand Manan," said Mayor Bonnie Morse to the Village Council. "Her name is Danielle, and she will be on the island next Monday."

Although the Make A Wish Foundation covers all the expenses of wishes that they grant to children who are terminally ill, Mayor Morse felt like the village council could do something on their own to add to Danielle's visit to the island. "I have written a letter welcoming her to the island, but I thought it would be nice if we had some sort of welcome package for her because it is quite special that her wish is to visit Grand Manan," said Morse. "I would like to suggest that we take $200 from our donations, which is the maximum we can take, and give it to Danielle and her family in the form of gift certificates to spend on the island while they are here for their Make a Wish visit. It could help top up what she receives from Make a Wish. I know they have balloons and decorations coming for her visit as well. She is spending a full day on the island, so if you see her and her family touring, please make them feel welcome and say hello."

Council unanimously agreed to make a special welcome package for Danielle and were all touched by her interest in coming to the island with the Make A Wish Foundation.
