Historic Georgian Bay Metis Community Prep For AGA
There is a host of events happening in Region 7 for Metis citizens to connect to culture and community this August.
The Gifts of Georgian Bay exhibit at the Penetanguishene Centennial Museum is still available for citizens to enjoy Metis artists' appreciation of Georgian Bay until September 5th.
The Urban Portage Challenge has returned for another year, encouraging Metis citizens to increase their daily activity. The challenge is province-wide and allows citizens to count their steps with their local community councils. A prize will be awarded to the community council with the most steps walked and individual prizes to citizens who participate.
Citizens who require a step counter can reach out to their local community council who can provide one for them.
The Metis Nation of Ontario’s Women’s Council is holding a province-wide election for regional representatives from August 7 to 14. Region 7 female-identifying citizens above the age of 16, have two candidates to choose from.
Both Suzanne Fraser and Michelle Lavellee Rae are running for Region 7 Regional Representative. Citizens can either vote online using OneFeather.ca or vote by phone at 1-855-923-3006.
The 31st Annual General Assembly is taking place at Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene this year from August 15 to 18. The official canoe arrival will be August 16th at 4 pm.
Citizens are encouraged to attend the assembly to learn more about how the Metis Nation of Ontario is representing you and how you can voice your opinions and concerns.
One of the highly anticipated events at this year’s Annual General Assembly is the Kooshkopayiw Metis Arts Council exhibit. The exhibit opens August 16th at 10:30 am and features Metis artists from across the province.
